Richard Carpenter

Richard Carpenter, age 69 years, of Caro, passed away on Friday, November 2, 2007 at Bay Regional Medical Center in Bay City. He was born on September 10, 1938 in Cass City, the son of the late Clare and Florence Carpenter. Richard was a graduate of Cass City High School and operated the family farm. In later years he delivered wood and newspapers until his retirement. Richard married the former Caroline Haines on August 7, 1981. She preceded him in death on February 11, 1997. He then married Barbara Diehl on September 13, 2003 and she survives him. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his early years and watching westerns on T.V. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Carpenter; his stepchildren, Gerald Diehl of Caro, William (Reva) Diehl of Caro, Charlene Smutek of Elsa, Texas, Carol (Gary) Mitchell of Caro, Lawrence (Faith) Giddings of Caro, Sharon (Daniel) Elledge of Mayville and Anna Schoen of Sterling; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two siblings, Jane (Elwin) Cox of Caro and Robert (Judy) Carpenter of Cass City; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Wilbur Ricketts officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be at the Collon Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Richard Carpenter family discretionary fund, c/o Barbara Carpenter.
