Richard G. Colling

Richard G. Colling of Unionville, age 88, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro. Richard was born September 3, 1930 in Colling, the son of the late Elmer and Faye (Lovett) Colling, and graduated from Caro High School with the Class of 1948. He was united in marriage with the former Esther Satchell on April 28, 1950 at the Sutton United Methodist Church. Richard was a lifetime farmer and also worked as a welder at Defoe Shipyard in Bay City. His greatest love was his family and their accomplishments. He also enjoyed playing and watching sports. Left to cherish Richard's memory are his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Esther Colling of Unionville; five children and their spouses, Rick & Sally Colling of Goode, Virginia, Doug & Kristy Colling of Unionville, Patti & Michael Morgan of Swartz Creek, Rebecca & David Lazarus of Ann Arbor, Kent & Beth Colling of Charlotte, North Carolina; one son-in-law, Dirk Sutherland of Unionville; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren with two more on the way; and one sister, Madelyn Metiva and her husband, LeRoy, of Caro. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by two daughters, Debbie Colling and Mindy Sutherland. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the Colling Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Jerry Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at a later time at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Colling Church of the Nazarene.
