Richard Paul Everts, age 75, passed on to God, his father, and Jesus, his Savior, on Saturday, April 30, 2011 in Upper Lake, California. He was born March 11, 1936 in Vassar, Michigan, the son of the late Cleo J. & Nellie Mae (Hascall) Everts. Richard was a devoted educator. He began his lifes work as teacher in Vassar but soon, with his dedication and passion, led a wide-ranging career. He served as a counselor, principal, Director of Upward Bound for disadvantaged youths in Detroit, Michigan, College Professor, College Dean in Arizona and continued to teach online classes during his retirement. During summer breaks from his educational career, Richard served as first mate on a fishing boat on Lake Huron to supplement his joy of fishing. Richard was a member of the Lions for thirty-five years and a member of SIR, serving in various offices in both organizations. His passion during his Lions years was raising funds for Leader Dogs for the Blind. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Anita; his daughter, Rae Ann and son-in-law, Dennis; one son, Richard and daughter-in-law, Terri; their mother, Carol Cooper; stepson, Thad and his wife, Cammie; stepsons, Sam and Joshua; eight grandchildren, Joshua, Jared, Taylor, Elleni, Arianna, Haley, Tori, and Hayden; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth and his three brothers, Robert, Donald and David Everts. God speed our dear husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend; we will see you again one day. Our world has gotten smaller without you in it; your voice, your caring spirit, and zest for life will be forever missed.
