Richard "Reg" Goodchild

Richard "Reg" Edward Goodchild of Starke, Florida, formerly of Gladwin and Fairgrove, age 54, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 29, 2016 in New York City, New York, due to an accident. He was born October 14, 1961 in Saginaw, the son of Karen (Bradley) and the late Frederick Goodchild. Reg was a 1979 graduate of Akron-Fairgrove High School, where he played football and was in the band. While growing up, he was an active member of the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church. He also was involved with the Fairgrove Jaycees, and loved working with the Michigan Bean Festival. On June 28, 1997, he was united in marriage with the former Tammy Sue Schweitzer at the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church. Reg was employed with Hayward Baker for thirty years. He was a hard worker and would help anyone with anything. Reg loved fishing and golfing. He had the biggest heart and would give the shirt off his back to a complete stranger. Reg is survived by this wife, Tammy; two sons, Jarrett Goodchild of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jake Goodchild of Royal Oak; mother, Karen Goodchild; siblings, Martha & Patrick Koenigsknecht of Fenton, Rob & Janet Goodchild of Skaneateles, New York; two nieces, Catherine and Lauren; three nephews, Christopher, Cole and Chase; his in-laws, Barbara & Joseph Chobad of Saginaw, Tom & Annette Schweitzer of Curtis; brother-in-law, Terry Schweitzer of Stokesdale, North Carolina; the mother of his sons, Nola Goodchild of Hendersonville, North Carolina; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Goodchild and Metcalf families. In addition to his father, Reg was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Edna Goodchild, Robert Bradley, and Harold and Joanne Metcalf. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church. The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to Great Lakes Lab Rescue, the Tuscola County Animal Control Shelter, the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church, or the donor's favorite charity. He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed by all.
