Richard Hercliff

Richard Hercliff of Mayville, age 80, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Ascension Genesys in Grand Blanc, surrounded by family, due to complications from Covid. He was born December 17, 1940 in Caro, the son of the late Melvin and Elva (Clink) Hercliff. He was united in marriage with Ruth Ann Weiler on January 23, 1960 by Rev. Olaf Jensen at the Baptist Church parsonage. Richard was first employed at the Strand Theater as an usher and retired from Michigan Sugar Company after forty-three years of employment. Richard had a heart for charity and helping others, including Relay for Life. He was a cancer survivor himself. He was a universal blood donor, received his five-gallon pin, and had donated on behalf of many family members and friends. Richard enjoyed the card game "Golf." He loved going on Casino trips and playing Bingo. He loved it the most when he won. Most importantly, he enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He attended all their activities and events. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Ann; his children, Brenda, Harry J. (Careen), Mike (Lisa), Jill, Joan (Brenda); ten grandchildren, Jennifer, Ethin, Kyle (Kitty), Lauren (Brad), Michael (Brian), Brandon, Bethany (Stephen), Debbie, Sara, and Hannah; four great-grandchildren, Maidene, Beatrix, Alexander, and Ruby; two siblings, Rosella Giddings, and Jack (Joan) Hercliff. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Hercliff; his in-laws, Harry and Emma (Stillwill) Weiler; and brother-in-law, Alfred Giddings. Funeral services will be held at the Caro First Baptist Church on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Marc Herron officiating. Cremation will follow the service with burial at North Grove Cemetery at a later date.
