Richard Jaster

Richard Lee Jaster, age 75, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012 at McLaren Hospital - Bay Region in Bay City. He was born on January 8, 1937 in Kilmanagh, the son of the late Alvin and Vernita (Harris) Jaster. As a child he moved to Gagetown and attended St. Agatha Catholic School and then Owendale High School. Dick worked building silos, logging, and eventually went to work at the Tuscola County Road Commission. He spent the remainder of his working career as a contractor, first with his brother and later with his son. Most recently, he worked in the kitchen at the Caro Middle School. On July 17, 1976 he was united in marriage with Joyce (Hill) Ford. Dick was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years. He recently became a member of the Caro Knights of Columbus Council #3224. Dick and Joyce enjoyed worldwide travel, cruises, and traveled to all fifty states with their motor home. Dick is survived by his wife, Joyce Jaster of Caro; his children, Pamela & James Stephens, Timothy & April Jaster, Rick & Patty Ford, all of Caro, Cherie & Cary Trobaugh of Oxford, Robison & Jodi Ford of West Branch; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his siblings, Joyce Houghteling of Caro, Henry & Ruth Jaster of Caro, Ann Judith & Larry Rutkoski of Essexville; sister-in-law, Sharon Jaster of Caro; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Martin and Roy Jaster, and a sister-in-law, Norma Jaster. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro with Father John Ladd officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Caro. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. The Knights of Columbus Council #3224 will recite the Rosary on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Richard Jaster Family Discretionary Fund, c/o Joyce Jaster, 205 W.
