Richard Lee Marker, age 69, of Unionville, ended his courageous fight with cancer on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at his residence with his loving family at his side. He was born June 27, 1940 in Elmwood Township and was a lifelong resident of Tuscola County. Dick attended Columbia Corners country school and was a Sebewaing High School graduate. He then served in the U.S. Army. On August 22, 1964 he was united in marriage to the former Mary Kopko at St. Michael Catholic Church in Wilmot. He was employed with Saginaw Steering Gear for 34 years prior to his retirement. Throughout his life he was also a farmer. Dick was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown. In addition to playing with his grandchildren, he enjoyed restoring tractors and was an avid farm toy collector. He is survived by his wife, Mary; four children, Dan (Carol) Marker of Kingston, Doug Marker of Bay Port, Jane (Tim) Englehart of Farmington Hills and Tim (Amy) Marker of Unionville; nine grandchildren; his mother, Mabel Marker of Unionville; his siblings, Ruth (Norman) Rhodes of Burt, Kathleen (Marv) Nowland of Davison and Sandra (Merlin) Kramer of Harbor Beach; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Max Marker. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Donald Eppenbrock and Sister Dorothy Ann Blasko, OP, officiating. Vigil for the Deceased will be held on Monday at 7:00 p.m. with Sr. Dorothy Ann Blasko, OP, presiding. Rite of Committal will be at St. Agatha Catholic Cemetery, Gagetown. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and at St. Agatha Catholic Church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Richard Marker family discretionary fund.
