Richard L. Nicholas

Richard L. Nicholas of Cass City, age 75, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the United Hospice Residence in Marlette, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 28, 1940 in Cass City, the son of the late Raymond and Doris (Rockefeller) Nicholas, and was a 1958 graduate of Cass City High School. Richard was a lifelong farmer, worked in maintenance at General Cable in Cass City, and retired from Walmart in 2006. A quiet man by nature, Richard enjoyed the solace of fishing, hunting and going for rides in his truck. Richard is survived by two children and their spouses, Teri & Josef Olsavsky of Grayling, Kevin & Sheila Nicholas of Vassar; four grandchildren, Tyler Nicholas of Vassar, Olivia & Cameron Pacheco of Houston, Texas, Michelle Olsavsky of Sterling Heights, Michael Olsavsky of Sterling Heights; three siblings and their spouses, Gerald & Olive Nicholas of Caseville, Katherine Louis of Gagetown, Roger & Gloria Nicholas of Caseville; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Gary Louis. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Good Friday, March 25, 2016 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. Burial will follow at a later time at Elkland Township Cemetery in Cass City. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to United Hospice of Marlette.
