Richard "Rick" Partlo of Caro, formerly of Cadillac and Akron, age 91, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Heritage Hill Assisted Living in Caro. Rick was born May 15, 1926 in Unionville, the son of the late Ollie and Pearl (Childs) Partlo. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater, and was heading toward Japan when the bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Rick was united in marriage with the former Charlene Sonquist on December 25, 1947 in Garner, Iowa. Charlene preceded him in death on June 10, 2012. Rick was employed as a mechanic for his entire working career, retiring from Moore Motors in Caro in 1984. He was a life member of the Fairgrove VFW Post #7486. In his earlier years, Rick enjoyed salmon fishing, bird hunting, wintering in Florida, and watching the Detroit Tigers. Richard is survived by two sons and their spouses, Mike & Marcia Partlo of Caro, Mark & Cindy Partlo of Caro; two grandchildren, Shawn and Hanna Partlo; one brother, Keith Partlo of Akron; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Vic & Karen Sonquist of Caro, June & Don King of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. A private graveside service with military honors was held at Demorest Cemetery in Akron.
