Richard Sanford

Richard Sanford of Cass City, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at his home. Richard was born December 2, 1935 in Deckerville, the son of the late Ray and Pauline (Gough) Sanford. He was united in marriage with the former Mary Johnston on April 29, 1961 at the Deckerville Bible Church by Pastor Wynn Decker. Richard owned and operated the Sanford Dairy Farm working alongside his wife for more than forty years. He was a member of the Cass City Missionary Church, and the Gideon's; and enjoyed running in 5K's, playing horseshoes, swimming in Lake Huron, snowmobiling, and going to Cedar Point. Richard is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Mary Esther Sanford; children, Jodi Lynn Sanford Hayes of South Carolina, Ray Charles Sanford and wife, Tammy, of Cass City, Alice Hudson of Caro; six grandchildren, Rory and Richard Hayes, David Sanford, Dalice, Lecretia, and Hal Hudson, Jr. and his wife, Annie; three sisters, Anna Dow of Ohio, Edna McConnachie of Deckerville, Betty Treen and husband, Ray, of Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Cliff, Harold and Carl Sanford. In keeping with Richard's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Cass City Missionary Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023 with Pastor Phil Burkett officiating.
