Richard J. Thiel

Richard J. Thiel, age 67, of Chandler Twp. died Thursday afternoon, March 25, at Scheurer Hospital after a short struggle with lung cancer.
He was born December 17, 1936 at the home of his parents, Frances (Kleido) Thiel and the late John Thiel in Chandler Twp.
Rich worked on the railroad as a young lad for several years before going to work for Yackle Brothers Tilling. In 1963, went to Elkton and worked at Michigan Lumber Fabricators for 12 years until they closed. In 1977, he went to Huron Castings where he was a HiLo driver, retiring at 65.
He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon and was very devoted to his family, taking care of his sister and mother at home until his health prevented it.
Surviving are his mother, Francis Thiel and his sister, Mary Jean Thiel both in Bad Axe.
A funeral mass will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, March 29, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. John Weis and Sr. Theresa Fox will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
A parish vigil service will be conducted 4:00 PM Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton where friends may call from 2 to 7 PM on Sunday.
Memorials may be given to the church.
