Richard Ziehm

Richard James Ziehm, age 77 years, passed away at his home on Saturday, February 23, 2008. He was born May 8, 1930 in Brookfield Township in Huron County to the late Basil and Louise (Morrice) Ziehm. He graduated from Sebewaing High School in 1948 and MSU in 1952. He then served as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, spending several months in Morocco and a year in Korea. On February 1, 1953 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Devereaux from Corunna, Michigan. Upon discharge from the service, they moved to the Ziehm family farm in Gagetown where Richard was a lifetime farmer. He was active in state and local agricultural boards, the local school board and other organizations. He is remembered by his wife, Evelyn; their four children, Larry (Virginia) Ziehm of Gagetown, Sandy (Scott) Kurzer of Durand, Ron (Leigh) Ziehm of Berger, Missouri, and Lori (Walt) Strathdee of Leesburg, Virginia; eleven grandchildren; his sister, Georgia (Dennis) Condon of Okemos; and his sister-in-law, Lois Devereaux Schweitzer of Champaign, Illinois; The familys lives were enriched by cultural experiences over the years through numerous exchange students, including Ami (Ivarsson) Nilsson of Sweden and Luz (Vales) de Garza of Mexico.
