Rita Murphy

Rita Murphy, 101, of Port Austin, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2024 at her home.

Rita was born February 4, 1923 in Detroit to the late Francis and Julia (Gagola) Stephanic.  She Married John Michael Murphy on June 1, 1946 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Detroit; he preceded her in death February 29, 2008.  She raised her family in Madison Heights, then moved to the Mayville-Kingston area in 1973 and to Oak Beach in 2003, where she continued to live on her own up until the time of her passing.  She was a member of the Annunciation of the Lord Parish.

Rita is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Murphy of Port Alice, British Columbia, Canada; grandchildren Devin (Penelope Turner) Miller and Bridget (Adam Bergeron) Miller; and great-grandchildren Declan Miller, Jack Bergeron, Theo Miller and Max Bergeron.  She was preceded in death by her son Timothy, son-in-law Walter Miller, and all of her siblings: Mary Ann Monaghan, Theresa Masar, Frank, Rudolph, Jan and Edward Stephanic.

A funeral mass will be at 11:00am Friday, February 23rd at St. Michael Catholic Church with Fr. Craig Carolan presiding.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at church on Friday.  Champagne Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
