Robert Paul Baur , 75 of Pigeon, passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 at home.
He was born July 12, 1939 to Paul and Hulda (Schuette) Baur. He was the firstborn of the fifth generation to reside in McKinley Township, Bay Port, Michigan. In his youth, he attended Cross Lutheran School and graduated from Pigeon High School in 1957. Bob was very active in FFA and his leadership skills led him to be a chapter and state officer, receiving the American Farmer degree. He then attended Michigan State University to further his agricultural knowledge which he implemented on the family farm working with his grandfather, father, brother Bruce and later, his sons. He was a graduate of Purdue University egg grading and marketing schools. Bob always had an inquisitive mind and a vision for using new and innovative techniques on the farm.
On August 20, 1960, he married Karen Kuhl in Kilmanagh. They were blessed with four children: Kari (Thomas) Osentoski of Bay City, Keith (Linette) Baur of Caro, Kregg (Dr. Julie) Baur of Rocklin, California, and Timothy Baur at home. He delighted in the accomplishments of his grandchildren: Michelle (Matthew) Reibling, Craig, Erik, Brian and Scott Osentoski; and Dedrick, Anna, Alexander, Kaitlyn and Bradford Baur; and great-grandchildren, Owen and Emma Reibling.
Some of the organizations he served over the years were President of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Pigeon/Lakers consolidation advisory board member, McKinley Township Zoning Board Chairman President and Board of Appeals for 12 years, East Central Michigan Health Planning Commission member, Michigan Governor's Land Use Advisory Committee Member, Huron County Soil & Water Conservation District Chairman for 12 years, Director of Huron County Irrigation District, MMPA local President for six years, MSU Kellogg World Study Program examining government, social and economic conditions for three years, and First National Bank of Bad Axe Board Member for ten years. Later years found him fulfilling his love for travel by driving truck cross country for J B Hunt. Known as "Uncle Bob" to many, he worked with his nephew for Gallagher Asphalt building NASCAR Chicagoland Speedway.
Through his struggle with cancer this year, his faith and positive attitude were uplifting to everyone in his presence. He has now joined those who preceded him in death: his parents, brother-in-law John Taylor and grandson Erik Osentoski.
Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Karen; his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Bruce (Marilyn) Baur of Bay Port; sisters Bernice (Thomas) Shupe of Elkton, Sharon Taylor of Port Austin and Carol Lynn (Len) Webber of Lebanon, Pennsylvania; brother-in-law Larry Kuhl of Sebewaing; sisters-in-law Charlotte Trost of Lansing, Illinois, Marsha (Bruce) Waggoner of Springfield, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
