Robert E. Baxter, Sr. of Caro, age 75, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2014 at Covenant Health Care - Cooper in Saginaw, following a stay at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro. Robert was born July 31, 1939 in Royal Oak Township, the son of the late Ernest and Lucille (Messer) Baxter. In 1961, he enlisted and served with the Seventh U.S. Army, 385th Military Police Battalion Attachment, stationed in Stuttgart Germany. Following his military service, he was a professional photographer for many years. Robert was employed at Harper Hospital in Detroit for twenty-five years before retiring in 2002. He enjoyed photography, hunting, traveling throughout the state, and spending time with his family. Robert is survived by four children, Simone & Phil Beyer of Union, Kentucky, Brian & Lyn Baxter of Port Huron, Robert & Carey Baxter of Fostoria, Craig & Anne Marie Baxter of Macomb; one grandson, Taylor; two step-grandchildren, Niccole Schrek of San Francisco, Nick Baxter of Port Huron; two brothers and their spouses, Les & Sandy Baxter of Fenton, Ernie & Cheryl Baxter of New York; and several other relatives. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Ronald C. Wigand officiating. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 8, 2014 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
