Robert J. Betson
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert J. Betson, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us unexpectedly on October 23, 2026. Born on March 27, 1952, in Pontiac, Michigan, Robert lived a life rich in love, adventure, and service. Robert was the cherished son of the late Robert A. and RoseMarie Betson and sibling to his predeceased sisters, Judy Betson-Koch and Sharon I. Betson. He is survived by his loving children, Allie Louise Irene Bohbow-Daniels (Rob) and Andrew James Betson of Bay City, as well as his brother, Thomas and wife Nancy Betson, and sister, Lynn and husband Olin Hemerline. Robert was also a proud grandfather to six grandchildren Jeremy, Skylar, Nataya, David, Dylan and Tanner and a beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews. He shared a special companionship with his devoted friend, Irene Polchowski.
Education was a cornerstone of Robert's early life, having graduated from Sebewaing High School in 1970. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the U.S. Army in 1970. Robert bravely served until 1974, spending two impactful years stationed in Germany.
Robert dedicated much of his professional life to being a truck driver, a career that allowed him to explore many states and even parts of Canada, until his retirement in 2015. Prior to this, he worked alongside his father in the family business in Lake Orion and later in Sebewaing.
An active member of his community, Robert was deeply involved with St. Christopher Church in Caro and the Sons of the American Legion Post 293 Color Guard in Sebewaing. His dedication extended to ABATE of Michigan Region 7, where he was a passionate advocate.
Among his many passions, riding his Harley Davidson was paramount. Robert loved the thrill of the open road, often traveling with Irene to visit family in Arizona or simply enjoying the scenic routes up north. His love for drag racing was infectious, and he spent countless hours at the racetrack, cheering on and assisting his nephew and niece.
Robert was known for his warm smile and willingness to help those around him. His kindness and generosity touched countless lives and will be remembered by all who knew him.
In accordance with Robert’s wishes, cremation is to take place. A memorial service celebrating his life is planned for Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Ransford Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The family will be present to receive visitors on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of his service. ln lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to organizations close to Robert's heart, including St. Christopher Catholic Parish and the Sons of the American Legion Post 293.
