Robert Blunt

Robert Blunt, age 87, of Sebewaing, passed away October 21, 2020 from surgical complications.

Robert was born as Robert Hass on June 18, 1933, the son of Peter Paul Hass and Frances Agnes (Felczak) Hass/Blunt. Abandoned as a child, along with his 5 siblings, on March 1938, he was adopted by Oren Lee Blunt on July 9, 1942.

Robert worked hard his whole life until his body said no more. Born in Tawas, as a child he helped work with farm labor. He grew up during the great depression with his mom and siblings on a low income. A baked potato was a meal for the day. When his mom remarried, they moved to Detroit for work. During WWII he worked as a paperboy and delivered all around Detroit and even in to Canada.

When Robert was a teenager, his biological father died and he and his siblings inherited his current property. He purchased the interest from his siblings and made it home. He was always an outdoors person and hated working in factories. He was a heavy equipment operator. He was also a cook on a ship in the Merchant Marines and could sure cook up an awesome meal. Robert worked as a custodian for the USA Schools for 22 years, retiring in 1992. He also built a small marina business on his property which was enjoyed by many for hunting and fishing. He worked and remained active well into his 70s.

Robert married Marilyn Marie Thompson on December 16, 1967. They had 52 good years together. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; 5 children: Robert (Victoria) Blunt of Sebewaing, Steven Blunt of Cass City, Laura (Mike) Trost of Pigeon, Rena Blunt of Harbor Beach, and Randy (Vicki) Blunt of Sebewaing; 10 grandchildren: Charles, Jennifer, Heather, Thomas, Kayla, Ryan, Grace, Ashley, Jocelyn and Benny; 10 great grandchildren; brother, William Blunt of Sebewaing; sister, Sylvia Davis of Livonia; brother-in-law, Fred Costello; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters: Pauline Calus and June Costello; brother, James Blunt; 2 nieces: Kendall and Candy Blunt.

The funeral service will be Saturday, October 24, 2020, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9am until the time of service at 11am. Fr. Theo will be officiating. Burial will be at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Unionville.

Memorials may be given to Our Lady Consolata Parish Building Project.
