Robert V Chaput age 86 of Pigeon formerly of Alpena died Wednesday morning, May 25, at his home in Pigeon.
He was born September 7, 1929 in Houghton to the late Victor and Helen (Haischer) Chaput.
On August 29, 1970, he was united in marriage to Audrey (Dubie) Black at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Alpena. She preceded him in death August 16, 2012.
Bob served his country first in the US Navy and then in the US Army during the Korean War.
In the early 50's, Bob was involved in the Flint All Sports Hockey Team, and was an accomplished semi-professional hockey player leading the league in scoring. He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon and enjoyed golf, hunting and gardening.
Surviving are four children, Kaye (Bruce) Grubba of Sand Point, Keith (Donna) Black of Burns, WY, Denise Black of Lansing and Gregg (Cindy) Black of Elysian, MN; six grandchildren, Krista (Todd) Hohl, Ryan Cousineau, Kevin Adache, Erica (Aaron) Brown, Mallory Ickes and Jack Ickes; three great grandchildren, Kelsi and Makenna Brown and Tyler Hohl; siblings, Ursula Persha of South Range, Carol Stevens of Trimountain and Alice (Jim) Wallberg of Davison
Preceding him in death were two brothers-in-law, Joe Persha and Henry Stevens.
A memorial mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, June 3, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon. Rev. Fr. Robert Pare’ pastor will officiate with interment next to his wife at Holy Cross Cemetery, Alpena.
Memorial gifts may be directed to Thumb Animal Shelter, Elkton or the Huron Humane Society, Alpena.
