Robert John "Bob" Diem

Robert John Diem of Caro, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at his home. Bob was born May 2, 1944 in Bad Axe, the son of the late George and Helen (O'Connor) Diem. He was united in marriage with the former Betty Lou Armstead on December 21, 1973 at the Courthouse in Sandusky. Bob was a thirty-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served from August 22, 1963 to September 1, 1993, and retiring as a Machinist's Mate First Class. Following his discharge from the service, he worked for U.S. Manufacturing in Bad Axe. He lived in the Cass City, Munising and the Caro area for the last twenty years. Bob enjoyed hunting, bird watching, sitting on his deck listening to the noise of the stream that passed through his property. He was an avid John Wayne fan and owned a copy of all his movies. He had the opportunity to meet John Wayne and their conversation led him to riding on John Wayne's tugboat. Bob is survived by his loving wife of forty-five years, Betty Diem of Caro; four children and their spouses, Brian Emmons of Colorado, Brenda & Tom Spencer of Cass City, Bruce Emmons of Cass City, Helen & Troy Tyer of Dearborn Heights; three grandchildren, Jason & Christina Spencer, Jessica Spencer and her fianc, Matt Bartnik, and Alyssa Tyer; two great-grandchildren, Brenton and Emmett; one sister, Mary Jo Farmer. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by two brothers, George, Jr. and Jim Diem. In keeping with Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. Military honors, afforded by the U.S. Navy and Caro American Post #7, will follow the service.
