Robert J. Hercliff

Robert J. Hercliff of Caro, age 84, went to his heavenly home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 25, 2021. Robert was born August 28, 1937 in Caro, the son of the late Melvin J. and Elva May (Clink) Hercliff. He was employed by Michigan Sugar Company for thirty years, and also served as president of the union. Robert enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, and most of all time spent with his family. He was immensely proud of his grandchildren, loved attending their events, and spent all the time he could with them. He will be forever missed, but his legacy of love and wisdom will live on through the generations. Left to cherish his memory are three daughters, Ruthann Hercliff, Angela (Nathaniel) Spears, Valorie (Joshua) Lester; five grandchildren, Jacob Kaplaniak, Aliyah Spears, Isaiah Spears, Kiersten Lester, and Jay Lester; honorary grandchildren, Audra, Justin and Torrie; son-in-law, Walter Kaplaniak; siblings, Rosella Giddings, Richard (Ruth Ann) Hercliff, Jack (Joan) Hercliff; several nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children, Susan Mitas. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Alfred Giddings; and a very special aunt, Mable May (Hercliff) Drane. In honoring Robert's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
