Robert Horning

Robert Franklin Horning, age 86, of Caro, formerly of Flint, died on Monday, June 6, 2011 at Covenant Health Care - Cooper in Saginaw. He was born on May 29, 1925 in Flint to the late Frank and Esther (Hill) Horning. He attended school in Flint, and left to join the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. On October 28, 1946 he was united in marriage to the former Darlene Peabody in Haslett. He and his wife then went to work for General Motors and stayed until their retirement. On June 1, 2010 the Hornings moved to Caro and have resided here since. Bob was a member Caro V.F.W. Post #4164, the Caro Moose Lodge, and attended the Lutheran church. He enjoyed painting with water colors, gardening, fishing, and hunting. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; five children, Linda (Denny) Sergent of Houghton Lake, Mary Ann (Cliff) Helsel of Mt. Morris, Ron (Joy-Ann) Horning of Mayville, Frank (Eva) Horning of Cass City, and Deborah (James) Thomas of Durand; ten grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maxine (Whitie) Bebee of Kalkaska and Donna Reif of Flint; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jack Horning; and the remainder of his siblings, Roy Horning, Don Horning, and Beatrice Bebee; and a grandson, Terry Lee Curey. The memorial service will be held at the Caro V.F.W. Post #4164, M-81, in Caro on Sunday, June 12, 2011at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave Woodby officiating. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation at the Collon Funeral Home.
