Robert Hyzer, age 85 of Caseville, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010 at home.
Born in Saginaw on February 23, 1925, he was the son of the late Robert Elijah and Mary Mabel (Mayhew) Hyzer, and graduated from Hume No. 4 rural school. On September 30, 1944 he was united in marriage to Frieda Helen Horton at the Caseville Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints. They had been married 65 years when she preceded him in death on May 20, 2010.
Robert farmed throughout his lifetime. He was trained at Minneapolis Moline to repair farm tractors, and could build or repair anything. He owned and operated a sawmill, and enjoyed woodworking and carpentry for many years - a trade that he learned from his father-in-law.
Robert was a trustee with the Lake Township board for 38 years and served as constable and liquor inspector for 19 years. He belonged to the Thumb Snow-goers, and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and traveling and camping with his fifth-wheel camper with his wife Frieda. The couple spent many summers at their cabin at Raber, Michigan. Robert enjoyed and loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by four children, Janice Hyzer Foster of Caseville, Lorna (Randy) Baur of Bay Port, Dorothy (Paul) Fischer of Caseville, and Martin (Sandy) Hyzer of Caseville; seven grandchildren: Bill, Cheryl, Karrie, Lori, Dan, Moira, and Aline; 10 great-grandchildren: Christopher, Beth, Christina, Robbie, Elly, Sydney, Carson, Zachary, Alex, and William; a sister, Frances L. Hyzer McBride of Pigeon; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Frieda, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Tony Foster; brothers, J. Wilford Hyzer, Henry "Harry" Hyzer, and Donald Hyzer; and sisters, Mildred Drier, Claremae King, Margaret Wahl, and Jean L. Reid.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, with Rev. John Heim officiating. Burial will be in Caseville Township Cemetery.
