Robert J. Sprague, 89, of Bay Port, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Scheurer Long Term Care in Pigeon.
Robert was born July 12, 1932 in Bay Port to the late Nijay and Ethel (Lintner) Sprague. He married Shirley Pallas on November 21, 1953 in Bay Port at the Methodist Parsonage.
Robert worked as a commercial fisherman starting at age 16. Robert retired from Wallace Stone Quarry as a driller in 1998. He was a member of the Bay Port United Methodist Church and the Bay Port Historical Society. He enjoyed ice fishing and hunting. He loved going to Cedar Point and riding roller coasters. He was known for his infectious smile and laughter.
Robert is survived by his wife of 68 years Shirley; children LuAnn Brown of Caro, Sherry (Phil Sr.) Leipprandt of Sand Point and Kellie Sprague of Caseville; grandchildren Rebecca Brown, Aaron Brown, Dr. Philip (Tabatha) Leipprandt Jr., Christopher (Kimberly) Leipprandt, Cody (Samantha) Leipprandt, and Jandi (Brandon) Nickerson-Prich; great-grandchildren Bryce, Eli, and Reid Leipprandt; sister Delores Mitchell of Pigeon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Russel, Edwin, Harold and Gilbert and sister Mary Turmell.
A memorial service will be 11:00am Friday, May 20th at Bay Port United Methodist Church with Rev. Heather Nowak officiating. Friends and family may begin visiting at 10:00am Friday until the time of the service at 11:00am. Champagne Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
