Robert M. Anderson, age 87 of Grant Twp. near Elkton, died Friday afternoon, July 8, at Courtney Manor, Bad Axe.
He was born February 23, 1929, in Grant Twp. to the late Lester and Blanche (Schaar) Anderson and remained in Grant Twp. most of his life. After high school, Elkton Class of '47, Bob took a job at Brown’s egg plant in Bad Axe.
On November 14, 1952, he married Arlene H. Huff of Oliver Twp. at the Baptist Parsonage in Harbor Beach.
In the mid-fifties Bob began raising mink while holding a job at Active Industries, Elkton. The mink farming grew, and in 1960 it became a full-time business. The fur industry peaked in 1973, so he sold it off and began a new career, starting Tri-County Dead Stock Removal, serving farms in the area. He operated the dead stock removal until 1981 when he retired.
Bob was a very talented man who could build or invent any part for any purpose. When retired, one of his hobbies was taking scrap parts and steel cuttings and crafting them into art, from tin men, birds and animals to a five-piece band called the “Amazing Shovel Head Band” with the Energizer Bunny as the drummer. He was also an avid football fan and enjoyed deer hunting.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Arlene; his son, Dennis (Joyce) Anderson of Cass City; daughters Lee Ann Anderson of Caro and Linda (Gary) Fini of Caro; five grandchildren, Jeff and Janelle Anderson, Alyssa (Tim) Smith, Morgan and Mallory Fini; two great-grandsons, Nolan and Ethan Smith; his sister, Eldina Heck of Elkton, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were a son-in-law, Paul Ney of Caro, and siblings Basil and William Anderson, Ethel Hill and Ruth Heck.
