Robert Dean Roose, age 81, of Caro, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at his home. He was born on December 29, 1927 in Evart to the late James and Ethel (French) Roose. His family moved to Tuscola County when he was a youth. He joined the Merchant Marines and was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army of the United States. Robert Roose married the former Norma Snyder on June 6, 1950 in Reese while he was working at the Caro Regional Center. He was employed at Saginaw Steering Gear from June 18, 1953 until his retirement thirty years and seven months later. Norma preceded him in death on July 23, 1980. He then married Alberta Wymore in 1981 in Caro. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, but he loved to drive, doing so for Marlex as a truck driver and Moore Motor Sales on dealer trades, after he retired. He was a life member of the Caro V.F.W. Post #4164. He is survived by his wife, Alberta; his children, Barbara (Ray) Karr of Caro, David Pretzer of Kingston, Linda (Henry) Gouine of Millington, Mary Mietz of North Port, Florida and Jake Roose of Caro; his step-children, Tina (Pat) Priebe of Cincinnati, Ohio, Les (Shelly) Smith of Kingston, Richard (Delores) Smith of Oklahoma, Serina (Mike) Green of Harrison and Norma (Marc) Rickwalt of Caro, twenty grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucy Holmes of Caro; a brother, Charles (Wilma) Roose of Caro; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Montei; and two brothers, Jim and Leslie. The funeral service will be held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday, August 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Cooper of Deford Community Church and Rev. Ray Karr officiating. Burial will be at Indianfields Township Cemetery with military honors afforded by the Caro V.F.W. Post #4164 and the U.S. Army. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home On Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice.
