Robert Gene Skidmore, age 83, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at Northwood Meadows in Cass City, following a period of declining health. Gene was born December 7, 1926 in Lansing, the son of the late Robert L. & Nina E. (Keyes) Skidmore. Following graduation from Lansing Eastern High School in 1944, Gene joined the U.S. Army during World War II, serving at the Headquarters of General Douglas MacArthur in Manilla and Tokyo, until his discharge in 1946. Gene was united in marriage with the former Betty J. Boutwell in Lansing on May 24, 1952. Following their marriage, Gene and Betty came to Caro where the family owned and operated Car-Go-Oil Company until Genes retirement in 1988. Gene was a member of the Caro First Presbyterian Church and a fifty-seven year member of the Caro American Legion Post #7. During his free time, Gene loved being outdoors hunting, fishing, playing pool and going to the nine oclock coffee meeting with the crew. Surviving are his loving wife of over fifty-eight years, Betty J. Skidmore of Caro; one daughter and her husband, Lori & Karl Owens of Dallas, Texas, one step-grandson, Kade Owens of Dallas and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Skidmore in December of 1986.
