Robert Smith

Robert C. Smith, age 90, passed away peacefully at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility on Saturday, December 6, 2008, following a lingering illness. Robert was born May 31, 1918 in Mikado, Michigan, the son of the late Raymond Ross & Maude Ruth (Crosby) Smith. He was united in marriage with the former Virginia Gerou on April 24, 1948 at the Ellington Nazarene Church. Prior to his career as a self-employed finish carpenter, Bo was employed with Forbes Lumber Company and later with Smith Builders, before his retirement in 2002. He was a member of the Colwood United Brethren Church in Caro. Bo was a man that had many talents and interests that included playing golf, earning the distinction of scoring a hole-in-one at the Caro Golf Course. In his earlier years, he enjoyed pitching on a fast-pitch softball team, fishing, hunting and cooking. Robert is survived by his loving wife of over sixty years, Virginia Smith of Caro; three children and their spouses, Shari Ann & William Goodchild of Alpharetta, Georgia, Susan Lynn & Delbert White of Millington, Rick Robert & Linda Kay Smith of Caro; five grandchildren, Scott Goodchild, Laura Podczervinski, Lynda and Michael Robinson, Angie Titus; six great-grandchildren, Morgan and Maggie Podczervinski, Andrea LaJoie, Hunter Robinson, Zachary and Emily Titus; three step-grandchildren, Jeff White, Jill Kaake, Tanya Brown; seven step-great-grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Dale & Janice Smith of Akron; four sisters, Naomi Smith of Caro, Ruth Smith of Spruce, Elsie Venema of Lansing, Betty Ji Casey of Stratford, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra Jo Smith in 1954; two brothers and one sister, Clifford R. Smith, Sr. in 1991, Paul J. Smith in 2001 and one sister, Beatrice Lavonne Smith in 1934.
