Robert Stephens

Robert R. Stephens, age 82, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011 unexpectedly at his home. He was born May 7, 1929 in Caro, the son of the late Norman A. & Hazel B. (English) Stephens and was a lifelong Caro resident. Robert was united in marriage with the former Eleanor Y. Moeller on September 25, 1948 in Caro. She survives him. Bob was employed with Michigan Sugar at the Caro plant for forty-two years, continuing three generations of Stephenss family employment at this plant. Over time, he did most every job there before becoming the sugar warehouse supervisor at the time of his retirement in 1991. Bob built their home on Monroe Street in Caro, where his hobbies of being an excellent woodworker and tending to his garden occupied his time. His garden produce became a neighborhood supply, that he enjoyed providing. Surviving Bob are his wife of over sixty-three years, Eleanor of Caro; four children and their spouses, Dale & Linda Stephens of Chazy, New York, Joanne Carter of Caro, Randy & Carol Stephens of Caro, David & Geri Stephens of Sand Hill, Virginia; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, three sisters and their spouses, Howard & Linda Stephens of Akron, Dorothy Brink of Akron, Norma Kapa of Mayville, Velma Jean & Robert Burkhardt of Caro and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his infant twin sister, Ruby Stephens and one sister, Edith L. Knaggs of Caro. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home with Chaplain Brad Gniewek of the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility officiating. Burial will follow at Indianfields Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the donors favorite charity.
