Robert Junior VanBevern , age 87, of Sebewaing, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022 in the comfort of his own home.
Robert was born April 29, 1935 in Unionville, to Emil and Florence (Baur) VanBeveren. After graduating from high school, he married Norma Jean Pobanz on November 10, 1956, the mother of his children. She preceded him in death in November 1984. He served in the United States Naval Reserve from April 1956 until April 1961. He married Norma J. Bauer on July 25, 1987. He was a self-employed farmer for 40+ years and retired from General Motors after 30+ years. Robert enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing; making wine for many years; playing cards; and spending time with his family and friends.
Robert is survived by his wife Norma of over 35 years; children: Joyce Griffin of Fostoria, OH, Wayne (Laurie) VanBevern of Unionville and Robert (Doug Pitts) VanBevern of Sebewaing; step children: Sandy (Larry) Marks of Reese, Mary Schulz of La Quinta, CA; sisters: Sondra (Ray) Sylvester of Reese and Judy (James) Loria of Swartz Creek; grandchildren: Kelson VanBevern, Felana Bernat, Felicia Rowe, Dalton Brown, Crystal Bollman, Terry Schulz, and Brandon Marks and families; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of over 25 years and mother of his children, Norma Jean (Pobanz) VanBevern; son, James R. VanBevern; and sister, Peggy Schember.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Juengel-Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing, from 5-8pm.
The funeral service will be Friday, June 3, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville. Visitation will begin at 10am until the time of service at 11am. Rev. Stolarczyk and Rev. Allen will be officiating.
Burial will be private at Demorest Cemetery in Akron Township.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice.
