Robert "Woody" Wood of Cass City, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the United Hospice Residence in Marlette. Woody was born April 28, 1938 in Marlette, the son of the late William JC & Alice (McDonald) Wood. He graduated from Marlette High School with the class of 1956 and enlisted with the U.S. Navy shortly after, serving for three years until his honorable discharge. Woody was united in marriage with the former Kathleen Roberts on February 20, 1972 in Monroe and celebrated forty-three years with her before her death in 2016. Woody was employed for several years with the Ford Motor Company near Detroit before learning to trim trees. He was self-employed in the trimming business in Oakland County for many years before moving with his family to Cass City in 1977 where he continued his business and also worked in line clearance for Detroit Edison. Woody was a member of the Caseville Eagles and enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre. He was happiest outdoors, and was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. Woody is survived by his three loving children and their spouses, Bradley & Melissa Roberts of Deford, Anne & Nick Chape of Vassar, William Wood and his fianc, Christy Zechmeister, of Akron; seven grandchildren, Sara & Noah Sharf of Bay City, Amanda Roberts of Mayville, Kyle Jordan of Deford, Austin Snell of Vassar, Zachary Snell of Vassar, Audrey Wood of Akron, Abby Wood of Akron; one great-grandson, Logan Sharf of Bay City; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Woody was preceded in death by two siblings, William JD Wood and Betty Schultz. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place with a memorial gathering to be held at a later date.
