Roger A. Haley age 62 of Grant Township near Elkton died Tuesday evening, February 14, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of Saginaw.
He was born June 8, 1949, in Bad Axe to the late Donald and Florence (Marshall) Haley. Roger grew up in the Elkton area and graduated from Laker High School in 1967.
On November 16, 1968, he was united in marriage to Valerie J. Wright at Salem United Methodist Church, Pigeon.
Roger knew farming was in his blood from the start, at age 15, he was farming on his own. In 1970, he bought the family farm from his dad and in 1972 he bought the Clayton Gemmell farm as well. Then in 1996, he began renting the farm out and took a position in sales at Laethem/J & D Farm Equipment, Fairgrove/Caro remaining with them for 12 years. In 2009, in retirement started his own excavating business
He was a member of Calvary Bible Fellowship serving as deacon for 15 years.
Surviving are his wife, Valerie; three daughters, Gretchen (Todd) Roestel of Pigeon, Kristi (Greg) Hanby of Saline and Meghann (Matt) Herford of Cedar Falls, Iowa; grandchildren, Travis and Austin Roestel; Kendal, Ian and Reese Hanby ; Marshall and Molly Herford. Also surviving are two brothers, Randy (Cheryl) Haley of Elkton and Will (Kerri) Haley of Saginaw and his mother-in-law, Verna Wright of Pigeon.
Preceding him in death was an infant sister, Linda and his father-in-law, Nelmer Wright.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday at Calvary Bible Fellowship, Cass City. Rev. Robert Magee, pastor will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Friends and family may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 9 PM Friday and at the church after 10 AM Saturday.
Memorials may be given to his church or the donor’s choice.
