Roger Paul Powell

Roger Paul Powell , 62, of Owendale passed away suddenly March 15, 2023, at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City.

He was born October 4, 1960, to Milton and Esther (Hoffman) Powell in Cass City, MI, the sixth of eight children.  He attended Owendale Gagetown High School, graduating with the Class of 1978.  He was a lifelong resident of Owendale, where he came to have many friends.  He worked at Sebewaing Industries until their closure.  He later worked at Sherwood on the Hill, where he was the Greenskeeper, Maintenance man, Cook, Server, Bartender, and everything else that needed to be done.

Roger thought he was a loner, when we all knew he was the quiet life of the party.  Like his dad, he would always have a funny side comment. He could figure out how to fix or build almost anything, and he would teach you things in his quiet way.  He was usually found by the grill, making sure the barbeque chicken was just right, or in the kitchen making sure the potatoes had no lumps.  He loved his family - all of us.  He loved making candies for Christmas. As grouchy as he tried to be, he was a softy when it came to the kids, who were all drawn to him.

He is survived by his sons:  Jesse Powell of Wales, MI, and Joshua Powell of Lake Orion, MI: Grandsons- Braydin, Skylar, and Tylar; Siblings- Lennie (Margie), Springdale, AR, Sandy (Joe) Salcido, Owendale, MI, Dan (Deb), Appomattox, VA, Morris (Pam), Cass City, MI,  Pat, Fort Collins, CO, Mike (Amy), Owendale, MI, and Sister in law Terri, Centennial, CO, many nieces & nephews; as well as his Sherwood family - Pam, Nicole, April, Izabella, Chloe, and the crew; and many friends - especially Mike Tkacz.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Milton & Esther, and his brother, Richard.

Cremation has taken place.  The family will receive guests at a memorial service to be held at Sherwood on the Hill, Gagetown, on Saturday, March 25 at 1:00 pm, prayer service at 1:30.  Reverend Christopher Suggitt will be officiating.  Luncheon to immediately follow.  Per family request, please dress casually.
