Ronald G. Forster

April 8, 1946 — January 17, 2012

Ronald G. Forster age 66 of Elkton died Tuesday afternoon at Bay Regional Medical Center peacefully surrounded by his family and friends following a long battle with health problems.

He was born April 8, 1946, in Pigeon to the late Otto and Betty (Rolph) Forster. He grew up in Elkton and was a 1964 graduate of Laker High School.
On December 10, 1966, he married the love of his life, Darlene "Deen" Iddings at the First United Methodist Church, Pigeon. It was shortly thereafter that he developed an interest in motorcycles and opened Suzuki Cycle Sales, originally next to the Hardware store, in Elkton.

With the love of dogs always at the forefront, Ron sold the Motorcycle business & concentrated on the care and training of dogs. This was a passion that continued throughout his entire life. Through his canine career, Ron found himself in the company of many people...from the famous to the average dog owner. In 1997, Ron and his family established Thumb Animal Shelter, a privately-owned facility for the care of stray and unwanted dogs in Huron county. His knowledge and compassion have been invaluable to all...two and four-legged alike. Among his many interests were hunting, fishing, restoring old motorcycles and teaching his Spring and Fall Dog obedience classes. He especially enjoyed time spent with friends and family at deer camp and his "Geezer" motorcycle trips.

Surviving are his wife, Deen; two children, Missy Rooney of Bad Axe and Mike (Jennifer) Forster of Cass City; two grandchildren, Kelsey and Dalton; three brothers, Randy (Jeanne) Forster of Bad Axe, Rod (Joanne) Forster and Scott (Brenda) Forster both of Elkton and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 21, at the Elkton United Methodist Church where friends may call Friday from 2 to 9 PM Friday and after 10 AM Saturday.
Memorials may be directed to the Thumb Animal Shelter or the donor’s choice and words of condolence may be shared at www.champagnefuneralchapel.com.
