Roy Lee “Red” Langley, 81, lifelong Caseville resident, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at his home after a long illness.
Roy was born in Caseville Township on August 18, 1927 to the late Albertus and Susie (Vachovic) Langley. He grew up in Caseville and attended school there. He served in the US Army Air Corps following World War II. He married Arlene Geiger on October 22, 1948 in Detroit. Arlene preceded him in death on January 15, 2000.
Roy worked in commercial fishing in Caseville with the Gillingham’s and Dufty’s, then later in Grindstone City. Working with George Beadle he helped develop Beadle Bay Marina on Sand Point, digging many of the canals and building roads. He worked at Caseville Lumber and Caseville DPW, retiring in 1978 for health reasons. He was a member of the Caseville Fire Department for 30 years, and the Caseville Eagles #3690 for 31 years. He enjoyed gardening and fishing in his retirement.
Surviving are his sons Jim (Julie) and Roy E., both of Caseville; son-in-law James Baker of Caseville; grandchildren Greg (Sherry Lapka), Bruce (Missy), Jerry (Carie), JR, Jace, Jake, Jayla, and Kara (Chris); great-grandchildren Sawyer, Michael, Mitchell, Alyx, Rylee, Morgan and Isabelle; and sisters Frances Gorski of Caseville, Erma Steele of Bay Port, Helen Guster of Caseville, Lois Dillon and Mary Orban both of Colwood.
He was preceded in death by his wife Arlene, daughter Noreen Baker, brothers Leonard, Albertus and David, and sisters Deloris Steinman and Eleanor Perry.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville with Rev. Michael Goforth officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Caseville Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 9:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. There will be an Eagles Ritual at 6:00 PM.
