Roy James Reed, Jr.

Roy James Reed, Jr. age 89 of Bay Port, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital of Saginaw.
He was born in DeWitt, Arkansas on December 1, 1922, and was the son of the late Roy Franklin, Sr. and Winnie (Keaton) Reed, and graduated from high school in Arkansas. From 1943-1946 during WWII, he served as Master Sgt. with the Army Air Corps in Japan, at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio, and also Hill Field AFB in Ogden Utah. While in Utah, he met and married his wife, Mary Miller, on September 1, 1945. She preceded him in death on April 10, 2002.
Roy worked in his father's machine shop prior to being drafted and later worked in grain elevator construction for many years. For the past 30-40 years, he enjoyed yard work and landscaping, and worked until he was 87 ½ years old.
He is survived by three daughters, Donna (Gary) Courtney of Interlochen, Marlene (Mike) Sipes of Bedford, Indiana, and Dawn Reed of Caro; nine grandchildren: Marla, Tim, Chris, Scott, Amber, Jeremy, Rodney, Stacey, and Sean; 11 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; a brother, Orville "Peanut" Reed of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Floyd, Rea, and Glen; two sisters, Patsy and Katie; and great-grandchildren, Cameron James and Chloe.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 27 at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, with Pastor Wayne Keim officiating. Burial will be in New Bay Port Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Sunday, August 26 2:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Monday, August 27 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 11 a.m.
