Royal Emerald Vollmar

Royal Emerald Vollmar of Unionville, age 98, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 26, 2026. Royal was born in Caro on February 13, 1928, to the late Otto and Opal (Butcher) Vollmar. Royal began his lifelong passion for farming with his father on the family’s farm in Columbia township and throughout his life was always a farmer at heart. He married Janet Fox on September 9, 1950, at the Colling Church of the Nazarene and the loving couple cultivated a beautiful family left to cherish their memory. Janet preceded him in death in 1996. Royal would find love again later in life, marrying June Putman on February 1, 2020, at Lighthouse Baptist Church where he was a devout member. She survives him. He was also a member of the Caro Loyal Order of Moose. Royal was a hardworking man who enjoyed the outdoors, be it barbequing with his family or sitting around the bonfire telling stories. He spent his free time woodworking and spent many years snowmobiling in the U.P.

Royal is survived by wife, June Putman; children, Rochelle Vollmar of Comstock Park, Brenda Doerr of Caro, Gail (Matthew) Bedtelyon of The Villages, Florida, and Dawn (Kevin) Olney of The Villages, Florida; grandchildren, Sadie (Andrew), Courtney, and Kaitlyn; great grandchildren Willow, Magglio, Harrlo, Julie, and Brody; step-children, Steve (Lois) Putman, Cheryl (Paul) Mollard, and Melissa (Larry) Avery; step grandchildren, Shannon (Shawn), Carrie, Scott, Brett (Amanda), Joelle, and Alexa (James); step great grandson James III; and siblings, Virginia (Bob) Becker and Mary (Norm) West; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

Royal was preceded in death by siblings, Dwain (Helen) Vollmar, William (Marilyn) Vollmar, Eileen (John) Lockwood, Alice (Fred) Jones, and Fritz (Norma) Vollmar; and grandson, Levi James.

A funeral service for Royal will be held at Ransford Funeral Home – Caro, 205 West Sherman Street. The family encourages friends and well-wishers to reach out to them for service details. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Lighthouse Baptist Church.
