Rupert G. "Casey" Walz, Sebewaing, age 89, died Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at McLaren Bay Region, in Bay City.
He was born Dec. 10, 1924 in Pettibone, N. Dakota, son of the late Christian and Christina (Morlock) Walz.
He was united in marriage to Charlotte E. Mundinger on April 14, 1950 in Pettibone. She died July 7, 1976. He then married Joan Petersen Majeski on June 23, 1979.
Casey had been a farmer in North Dakota until moving to Sebewaing in 1966. He had been a tool and die maker at Sebewaing Industries until his retirement in 1989.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946.
He was a very active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, served as an elder, trustee and sang in the choir. He enjoyed woodworking and building cabinets in the church.
Surviving are his wife, Joan, Sebewaing; children, Daniel (Beth) Walz; Ann(Fred) Edwards; Kenneth Walz; Michael (Lynette) Walz, all of Sebewaing; Elizabeth (Harvey) Feinauer, Bay City; William (Peggy) Walz, Caseville; Christine Walz, Columbus, MI; Bruce (Linda) Walz, W. Chicago, IL; Ruth Walz, Pittsburgh, PA; Peter (Denise) Walz, Hillsborough, NC.; Naomi (Ted) Sidloski, Kent, OH; Eric (Renee) Majeski, Washington, MI; 24 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; also 2 sisters-in-law, Kate Walz, E. Grand Forks, MN, and June Mundinger, Glencoe, Ontario; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 8 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Rev. Michael Boyer will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Juengel-Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday. He will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at 11.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Immanuel Lutheran Church.
There will be graveside Military Rites to be held under the auspices of the Sebewaing American Legion Post #293.
