Russell Martin Gonyou, age 88, of Sebewaing, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Bay Medical Care Facility in Essexville.
Russell was born in Oxford, Michigan, on December 15, 1927, son of the late John and Leatha (Ashley) Gonyou. He graduated from South Lake High School in St. Clair Shores. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corp.- Air Force Division in the Photographic Division-Squadron #53 during the end of WWII. He attended one year of college at Eastern Michigan. He married Vera Feldman on August 7, 1949, in Oxford at the Congregational Church. He retired as a serviceman for Consumer Power. Russell enjoyed pheasant and deer hunting, gun collecting, fishing, cleaning vehicles, swimming, yard work, barbequing, going to deer camp, traveling, target practice, and was a member of the Lake Orion American Legion Post #233 and Sebewaing American Legion Post #293.
Russell is survived by his wife, Vera Gonyou; daughters: Pamela (Terry A.) Winter of Sebewaing and Luann (Patrick) Gonyou-Reynolds of Gulf Breeze, FL; 6 grandchildren: Amy (Cari) Becker, Kristy (Ron) Green, Michael Preston, Shawn (Marsha) Winter, Kimberly Winter and Ashley Winter; 5 great grandchildren: Sara Becker, Alexandra Becker, Jacob Becker, Gavin Green and Jackson Green; and nieces and nephews.
Cremation handled by Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing.
Memorial donations may be sent to the family for the National WWII Walk of Honor Bricks in Washington D.C.
