Russell D. Hendershot

Russell D. Hendershot, age 77, of Caseville, died Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.

Russell was born September 20, 1930 in Flint to the late Harold and Rita (Hagar) Hendershot. He was raised in the Davison area before joining the US Army in 1947. When his enlistment ended in 1950 he re-upped in the US Air Force and served until 1953. While stationed in Florida, he met his future wife Martha Gaulden, who was also in the Air Force. They were married on January 12, 1952 in George County, Mississippi.

After leaving the service, they settled in Davison and raised their family. Russell was retired from AC Spark Plug in Flint. In 2001 he moved permanently to Caseville. He was a former member of the VFW and Caseville Eagles. He enjoyed boating and swimming.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Martha; children Karen Ann McKenzie of Burton, Rusty Lee of West Branch, Rickey D. of Flint, Ron D. (Tersita) of California and Roy R. of Caseville; eight grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sister Vivian Hill of Mt. Morris and brother Gary (Elaine) Cole of Linden.

Preceding him in death is his son Randy B.

Funeral services will be at 7:00 PM Thursday, June 26th at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville with Rev. Joseph Wold officiating. Burial with military honors will be at 9:30AM Friday at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
