Ruth Amelia Corlis

Ruth Amelia Corlis, formerly of Caro and Kingston, age 91, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016 at Medilodge in Cass City, following a period of declining health. Ruth was born December 22, 1924 in Duluth, Minnesota, the daughter of the late James and Hilda (Lindquist) Myers. As a young girl, she was employed at a hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and then moved to Pontiac where she worked during the war effort. Ruth was united in marriage with Roy Corlis on April 17, 1943 in Pontiac, and he preceded her in death. Ruth moved to the U.P. while her husband was at war and then returned to Pontiac Motors. Ruth and Roy eventually moved to Kingston to live with family members while they built their home. After living in Kingston, they moved to Caro. Ruth was a loving mother and raised five children. She enjoyed sewing, making much of her children's clothing, cooking, baking and gardening. Ruth is survived by five children and their spouses, Douglas Corlis of Burton, Kenneth & Dawn Corlis of Kingston, James & Gloria Corlis of Caro, Carolyn & Ron Bower of Lapeer, Judith & Jim Rogers of Caseville; fourteen grandchildren, several great- and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Shirley Turner of Beloit, Wisconsin, William & Rita Myers of Dearborn Heights, and Margaret Piiranien of California; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her remaining siblings, John Koskela, Sylvia Bolf, Blanche Rahja, Catherine Rushford, James Myers and Doris Myers; and recently a daughter-in-law, Claudia Corlis. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Kingston Cemetery with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to The Salvation Army.
