Ruth M. Heckroth, 84, of Chandler Twp. near Caseville, died Monday morning, October 22, with family by her side at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe from complications following a stroke.
She was born June 12, 1923 to the late Henry and Viola (Rothfuss) Diebel in rural Oliver Township and graduated from Elkton High School.
On October 7, 1944, she was united in marriage to Ray C. Heckroth at the Elkton Evangelical United Brethren Church She and Ray worked and raised their family on the family farm near Gotts Corner. Ray preceded her in death on February 11, 2003.
Ruth was an active member of the Elkton United Methodist Church and was dedicated to her church and her family. She loved to cook, work crossword puzzles, read, and quilt, and will be remembered for her beautiful, intricate counted cross stitch work and flower gardening.
Surviving are her daughter, Carol (James) Carter of Portage; two sons, Alan (Irene) Heckroth of Caseville and Roger (Michele) Heckroth of Georgetown, TX; six grandchildren, James and Jeffrey Carter, Christopher and Nicole Heckroth, and Skye (Alan) Jones and Roger (Christine) Heckroth and a great-grandson, Dominic Jones. She is also survived by three sisters, Mildred Dietzel of Pigeon, Ann Ort of Brighton, and Doris (William) Webb of Venice, FL and one brother, Gerald (Sharon) Diebel of Grant Twp. and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were four brothers, Clayton, David, William, and Leland Diebel and three sisters, Arlene Carroll, Mary Hale, and Jean Keiser.
Funeral services will be conducted at Elkton United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 27. Rev. David Collins, pastor will officiate with interment in Colfax Twp. Mausoleum. Visitation hours for family and friends will be Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton and at the church after 10:00 AM Saturday.
Memorials may be given to the Elkton United Methodist Church or the Huron County Medical Care Facility where she was attended by a loving, caring staff.
