Ruth Marie Gibbard-Lewis, 91, of Bay Port, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.
Ruth was born July 22, 1930 in Ferndale to the late Reid and Ruth (Hess) Wesson. Ruth married Richard Gibbard in 1953; he preceded her in death in 1979. Ruth then married Rev. Alger Lewis in 1982, and moved from Rochester to Bay Port, where Ruth had been visiting since her childhood. Ruth supported her husband’s ministry as Pastor at Bay Port, Hayes, North Street, Kilmanagh and Unionville United Methodist Churches. Ruth loved pets and took in all the local stray cats and dogs. She enjoyed fishing, music, Canasta, and spending time with her family at her home on the Lake.
Ruth is survived by her husband Alger; children Deborah (Sandy Dent) Gibbard of East Lansing, Julie (Fred) Fleming of Macomb, Loreen (Anthony) Cataldo of Macomb, Richard (Gilda) Gibbard of California, and Heidi (John) Klees of Grand Rapids; grandchildren Michael, Stephanie, Jared, Heather, Erin, Richard, Guiseppe, Angelina, Nolan, and Olivia; great-grandchildren Weston, Hunter, Blake, Darian, Fynn, and Sawyer; sister Catherine Baczynski of Nebraska.
Funeral services will be 10:00am Saturday, October 30th at Pigeon First United Methodist Church with her husband, Rev. Alger Lewis officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy. Visitation will be 2-8pm Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel.
