Ruth Rasch, age 82, of Unionville, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025 at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital under the care of hospice.
Ruth was born in Marburg, Germany on October 19, 1943, to Albert and Herta (Brindopke) Zuzchlag. She moved to the United States to reunite and marry the love of her life, Ralph Rasch on July 5, 1968. Ruth was an extraordinary Unionville icon, renowned for her love of walking throughout the streets of Unionville, spreading joy, warmth and kindess to all she met. Her radiant spirit, captivating smile, and overwhelming kindness inspired everyone she encountered. Her strong German accent only added to her charm. She enjoyed helping the elderly, whether it was mowing the lawn, picking up groceries, or bringing over a plate of her traditional German cookies. Ruth took great pride as a caretaker and cleaning homes and local businesses. Ruth loved spending time with her grandchildren, her friends, her family in Germany and going on walks. She enjoyed being outdoors, tending to her flowers, gardening and having a good beer.
Ruth is survived by her son, Hans (Michelle) Funk and daughter, Christine Soriano;grandchildren: Regan Soriano, Garen Soriano, Adriana Funk and Grant Funk; great grandchildren: Dorian and Juniper Moussawer; siblings: Fred Zuschlag, Siggi Lantos, Peter Zuschlag, Klaus Zuschlag and Elke Diehl.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Rasch; parents: Albert and Herta Zuschlag; in-laws: Chuck and Lillian Rupp and Edward Rasch; sisters: Renate Witsel & Ute Muders.
The memorial service will be Saturday, January 10, 2026 at the Unionville Moravian Church. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am until the time of service at 12pm. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
Memorials may be given to the Unionville Moravian Church, Dementia Society of America or Blood Cancer United.
