Samuel W. Anderson, age 98, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014, following a brief period of declining health. Sam was born March 14, 1915 in Alma, the son of the late Samuel W. & Ina Mae (Silvernail) Anderson III. Sam was united in marriage with the former Lorraine F. Jordan on June 2, 1940 in Owosso. They moved to Caro in 1947 where they owned and operated Anderson's Appliance Store. "See Sam and Save" was the trademark of the business and became an indelible part of downtown Caro's history. Sam was very involved in the community and acted as the Indianfields Township Clerk for over twenty-six years, and was a member and past president of the Caro Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a former trustee of Camp Pine Acres for twenty-seven years and was very active with Boy Scout activities as well as driving bus for several years for Caro Community Schools. Sam was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of its building committee. Sam's wife of over sixty-three years, Lorraine Anderson, preceded him in death on January 16, 2003. Sam is survived by two daughters, one son and their spouses, Martha & Wayne Butcher of Caseville, Donna & Jim Meyer of Bellevue, Bill & Janice Anderson of Caro; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Sam was preceded in death by a grandson, Jordan W. Meyer in 1996 and by three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2014 at the Caro United Methodist Church with Rev. Gregg Mayberry officiating. Burial will follow at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro United Methodist Church in Caro.
