Samuel R. Dicks of Caro, age 71, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024, at his home. Samuel was born May 27, 1953, in Cass City, the son of the late Alexander and surviving Margaret (Sharp) Dicks.
As a beloved son, brother, father, grandpa, life partner, cousin, uncle, nephew, friend, Sam had one of the kindest of hearts. He would offer his shirt off his back, hold a door for you, carry the heavy things, make a joke to brighten your day, and give you a helping hand when in need. His enjoyment of family time, being a jokester, eating, loving with his whole heart was at the core of his being. Sam cared for and saw every person as they were and with compassion (even the tough stuff). When you met him, you remembered how he made you feel. We come into the world and leave with just that – Love, Joy, Grace, and Compassion. Sam expressed those throughout his life.
A retired local gravel hauling truck driver, Sam, aka Turtle, enjoyed his time tinkering on one of his many projects. Sitting still for long wasn’t really his thing. He was often jumping up to help others, fix things, greet, and offer to dance with family members at parties.
A jack of many trades, Sam enjoyed having coffee with the birds every morning. Ensuring his garden harvested family favorites such as strawberries, veggies, and of course planting the biggest pumpkins for his grandchildren. Time spent speaking to “his girls” and family brought him pure joy. Getting down on the floor to play, making the grandchildren laugh and giggle was a loving highlight. Joke telling and pulling pranks on cousins to get a rise out of them kept him young at heart.
Mindfully in the end, he knew his legacy lives on through each of our memories and life lessons we carry into the future.
Left to cherish his memories are his life partner, Cheryl McQueen; mother, Margaret (Sharp) Dicks; siblings and their spouses, Mary (late Gordon) Taggett, Britton (late Rose) Dicks, Lerry Dicks, Terry (Robin) Dicks, Kelly (Mark) Titus, James Dicks, and Robert (Thelma) Dicks; his daughters, Sonja (Andre) Paquette, Bethany Dicks, Allison Dicks, and Brandi Mire; and many precious grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Sam was preceded in death by his father, Alexander Dicks; brother, Allen Dicks; and sister, Carol Hartman.
