Samuel J. O’Connor age 73, of Meade Twp. died Friday afternoon, January 24, at his home while under hospice care.
He was born September 3, 1940 in Bad Axe to the late Bernard and Corinne (Sauve) O’Connor. Sam grew up on a farm in Chandler Twp. and graduated from Elkton High School in 1958.
After high school, Sam worked with his dad on the family farm and also was employed at AC Motors in Bad Axe as a mechanic during the 60’s. In November of 1963, he was united in marriage to Madalyn Fisher at St. Felix Catholic Church, they parted in 1986. In 1972, he bought Suzuki Cycle Sales in Elkton from Ron Forster and built the shop where it is today. Then in 1995, he started O’Connor Trucking and was still very active in both of these businesses.
Sam was a lifelong member of St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog. His hobbies were racing, racing, racing. Be it cars, motor cycles or snowmobiles, if it had a motor he would race with it. It’s a hobby that he passed down to his kids and now his grandkids.
Surviving are his life partner, Karen Anklam; children, Susan (Patrick Buss) O’Connor of Portland, OR, Brian O’Connor of Elkton, Ken (Laniel) O’Connor of Elkton, Lisa (Edward) Plucinski of Capac and Michelle (James) Macdowall of Bad Axe; grandchildren, Shawn, Kaylee, Curtis, Chloe, Brody, Dalton and Megan; sister, Mary Alice Gretz of Deckerville: his brother, Robert (Tammy) O’Connor of Bay City and sister-in-law, Meta O’Connor of Pigeon.
Preceding him in death was a brother, William O’Connor and a brother-in-law, James Gretz.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 28 at St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog. Rev. Fr. Robert Pare’ pastor will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 9 PM Monday and at the church after 10 AM Tuesday.
Memorials may be given to Relay for Life, Heartland Hospice or Scheurer Hospital.
