Sandra Lynne Bills of Caro, age 59, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, December 23, 2021. She was born October 13, 1962 in Fort Hood, Texas, the daughter of Gloria (Gonzales) and the late Robert Hernandez. Her early years were spent traveling the country as the daughter of an Army drill sergeant. She moved to Michigan as a teenager and graduated from Bay City Central High School with the class of 1980. While in Bay City, Sandra joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and remained a steadfast member for her entire life. Following graduation, she attended Albion College and worked for a brief time at the Midland Nuclear Power Plant. Sandra was united in marriage with Lawrence Bills, Jr. on February 9, 1985 in Bay City. The couple moved to Flint shortly after, eventually making their home in Caro in 1993. While in Flint, Sandra earned her certification in early childhood development from Mott Community College and served as a foster parent and operated a home daycare for many years. While in Caro, she taught preschool at Noah's Ark in Kingston. Motherhood was her greatest ambition in life and after several years of service to area youth, Sandra shifted her focus, devoting as much time as possible to her own children and their activities. She was a scout leader and mother to four Eagle Scouts, AYSO coach, and a fixture at her children's sporting and school events. Sandra was also a talented cook and was able to feed countless numbers with her now famous recipes. She rightly earned the name "Mama Bills", a name affectionately used by dozens of Caro graduates throughout the years. She was also an "American Mom" to many foreign exchange students and served as coordinator for Youth for Understanding. She was rarely able to enter the grocery store without being greeted by one of the many she had served throughout her life, always receiving hugs and often words of gratitude for the outpouring of love and support she'd given at one time or another. Her loss will be felt by many for years to come. Sandra is fondly remembered by her husband, Lawrence M. Bills, Jr. of Caro; five children, Lawrence (Tais) M. Bills III of Springville, Utah, Zachary Bills (girlfriend, Brittany) of Lowell, Jordan (Laicee) Bills of St. Clair Shores, Barrett (Chloe) Bills of Provo, Utah, and Sarita (fianc, Matthew) Bills of Bay City; four beautiful grandchildren that she absolutely adored, Christian and Isabella of Provo, Utah, Evelyn and Oliver of St. Clair Shores; and she was excited to meet her grandson due in March (Larry & Tais). She is also survived by her mother, Gloria Gonzales of Caro (formerly Texas); brother, Robert (Deborah) Hernandez, Jr. Sandra was preceded in death by her father, Robert Hernandez Sr.; her grandparents, great aunts and uncles, and her beloved dog, Scout. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Caro with Branch President Mike Lindauer officiating. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove. The family will be present to receive friends at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning to express their love in Sandra's memory are asked to perform a random act of kindness.
