Sandra Kay Romain of Bay Port, age 85, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of Thursday, June 19, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born June 4, 1940 in Bay Port, the daughter of the late Floyd and Bessie (Kohl) Deming. Sandy graduated from Bay Port High School and furthered her education at the Bay City School of Commerce. In 1960, while on a trip in California, Sandy happened to meet Michael Romain, who was from Caseville; it was love at first sight. They were engaged within five days and married six weeks later on January 28, 1961, in Bay Port. Their marriage was blessed with over sixty-four years, three wonderful daughters, and countless memories.
Sandy worked for Thumb Truck Equipment for over forty years as their bookkeeper. She was a charter member of Faith Bible Baptist Church of Bay Port and very devoted to Jesus. Sandy was a true woman of faith and loved Jesus dearly. In her free time, she enjoyed crafting, shopping, perusing QVC, and watching Gun Smoke. Sandy’s favorite title was Grandma; her granddaughters were her world, and she loved taking care of them. She had a huge heart and would open her home to anyone. Sandy will forever be remembered for her love, sense of humor, and faith in Jesus.
Sandy leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband, Michael Romain; daughters & their spouses, Renee & Frank Ondrajka, Carin & Luke Orth, and Michele & Rick Cottrell; her niece who was like a daughter, Susan Perry; granddaughters, Lindsay Kay Ondrajka and Brooke (Bill) Steckley; many nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her infant granddaughter, Lydia Maxine Cottrell and siblings, Naomi Bach, Audrey Rinnert, Elaine Englehart, and Lester “Butch” Deming.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the various healthcare professionals and aids of A & D Hospice for their compassionate care they gave Sandy. Especially Nava “Tina” Donovan, who became like family during the time she spent caring for Sandy. Also to the staff and nurses at Schuerer Hospital in Pigeon for their excellent care of Sandy.
Sandy’s Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 12:00pm at the Elkton Missionary Church in Elkton. Reverends Dustin Ward & Garret Gazlay will officiate. Visiting will be from 10:00am until 12:00pm at the church. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the wishes of the family, c/o Michael Romain.
