Sandra M. Schoen of Mayville, age 68, passed away at her home with her loving family by her side on Friday, January 12, 2024. Sandy was born August 7, 1955, in Detroit, the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Skowron) Lelonek. Sandy grew up on the East side of Detroit, where she spent many fun-filled years reading and playing piano. After graduating from Regina High School, she earned her degree from Wayne State University in 1977. Early years spent babysitting and volunteering as a candy striper paved the way for what would eventually become a forty-five-year long career in nursing. As an RN, Sandy worked in pediatrics at St. John Hospital, eventually branching out to various urgent care and emergency room settings. Sandy met her soulmate, John, on a successful blind date in 1978 and the couple quickly wed the following year. They loved their dogs, spending time outdoors, camping, and later enjoyed many adventures on their motorcycle. After many years of driving kids to dance rehearsals and family camping trips, they were able to retire and move north to Mayville. The last few years have been full of fresh air, daily hikes in their woods, snuggling grandbabies and dogs, and watching the deer and turkeys in their backyard. Sandy will be fondly remembered for her kindness and patience.
Left to cherish Sandra’s memory are her loving husband of forty-four years, John; children, Janet (Michael) O’Rourke, Chase (Andrew Przybylinski) Schoen, and Barbara (David) Zaleski; step-daughter, Deanna (Dave) Gorman; nine grandchildren; brother, Edward (Diana) Lelonek; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mayville with Rev. Christopher Coman officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Caro.
