Savilla F. Cogan of Caro, age 96, passed away following a brief illness on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. Savilla was born May 11, 1923 in Birch Run, the daughter of the late Edmund & Sarah Mary (Bloom) Irish. She grew up in Birch Run and was united in marriage with Christopher "Ted" Cogan in 1942 in Bridgeport. The couple remained in Bridgeport until moving to Caro in 1976. Savilla will be remembered as the smiling face behind the counter of the Second Chance Store of Big Brothers Big Sisters in Caro for nearly twenty-five years. She was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church and was a 4-H leader when her children were growing up. Savilla was an avid Euchre player and enjoyed the many hours spent playing with the senior citizen group of the HDC in Caro. She also liked sewing, crocheting, and reading. Savilla is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Mary Nikolai of Reese, Virginia & Terry Shay of Caro, Janette & David Watson of Snover; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Jeffrey & Vicky Durkee, Sheri & Scott Kern, Lori Stratton, Jennifer & Perry Aleksink, Chris & Holly Shay, Matthew & Julia Shay, Michael & Christine Watson, Kristy Watson; fifteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Savilla was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher Cogan in 1997; seven brothers; and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2020 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Dr. Tony Tomasino officiating. Burial will follow at a later time at Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro.
